Spot creative fatigue early
Frequency rises, CTR falls, cost follows. A creative doesn’t die overnight. It gives you warning signs.
The signal, in three lines
Creative fatigue always looks the same. Frequency (the average number of times one person has seen your ad) goes up. CTR goes down. Cost per result follows, a little later.
Your ad didn’t get worse. The people it spoke to have already seen it, often several times, so the algorithm has to reach further, toward people who are less convinced.
The three lines don’t move at once, and that lag is your warning. Frequency rises first, then CTR drops, then cost per result climbs. If you wait for cost to react, you’ve already paid for days of tired ads.
Fatigue, or an audience that’s too small?
They look alike but need different fixes. If frequency climbs fast while your budget hasn’t changed, the audience is too small: the algorithm is going in circles in a limited pool. Broaden it.
If frequency rises slowly and normally but CTR still drops, it’s the creative. You need something fresh, not a bigger audience.
Refresh without breaking things
Don’t replace all your ads on the same day. You’ll restart learning and lose your benchmark. Add a variant next to the winner and let them run side by side.
A variant changes one thing at a time from what works: a new hook on the same image, or the same copy on a new image. That’s how you can tell what made the difference.
Stay a step ahead
Fatigue is predictable. The bigger your budget compared to your audience, the faster it hits. Always have a variant ready before you need it, instead of scrambling the day your cost jumps.
That’s one of the simplest ways to use Adwize: keep creative ideas on hand, adapted to each format, ready to review and approve when the time comes.
