Pick the objective Meta really optimizes for

Your objective isn’t a label. It tells the algorithm who to show your ad to.

An instruction, not a category

When you pick an objective (traffic, leads, sales), you’re telling Meta what behavior to look for. It then shows your ad to the people most likely to do exactly that, and nobody else.

Ask for traffic and it finds people who click. There are lots of them, and they click on everything. Ask for purchases and it finds people who buy. They’re rarer and cost more to reach, but they’re the ones who pay you. Asking for traffic and hoping for sales won’t work.

Three objectives cover almost everything

Sales, for an online store that tracks purchases. It’s the default for e-commerce, and the only objective that truly optimizes for revenue.

Leads, when the sale happens later by phone or in a meeting: a quote, an info request, a booked call. Instant forms, which open inside Facebook or Instagram, often work well here.

Awareness, when you truly need maximum reach in one area: a store opening, a dated event. It’s easy to “succeed” on paper and hard to make profitable. Use it only when you know why.

The optimization event, under the objective

Inside each objective, you also pick the exact event to optimize for. For sales, that’s usually the purchase. If you don’t have enough purchases for the algorithm to learn, use add to cart or initiate checkout instead.

The rule: optimize for the event closest to your money that you can feed regularly. Too rare, and the campaign stays stuck in the learning phase. Too far from the sale, like a page view, and the algorithm learns from people who never take the next step.

What this changes in practice

Two campaigns with the same ads, copy and budget but different objectives will reach different people, at a very different cost per result. Before you rewrite a hook, check that your objective matches what you really want.

In Adwize, you describe your goal in plain words. The objective and optimization event are suggested, explained, and wait for your approval.
