Three Facebook ads updates matter most in 2026. First, measurement: since March 2026, click-through attribution for website and in-store conversions counts only link clicks, and on January 12 the 7-day and 28-day view windows left the Ads Insights API, so conversions before and after those dates do not compare one to one. Second, structure: since May 19, 2026, no Marketing API version can create or update legacy Advantage+ shopping and app campaigns, which leaves Advantage+ sales and app campaigns as the only path for automated buying. Third, cost: Meta reported its average price per ad up 12% year over year in both Q1 and Q2 2026, and its help center lists location fees of 2% to 5% on ads shown in six countries. The table below lists every dated change, newest first, with who it touches and what to do. Each entry links to Meta’s own page, checked on September 24, 2026.
TL;DR
- Measurement moved first: click-through attribution counts only link clicks since March 2026, and the reporting API dropped 7-day and 28-day view windows on January 12.
- Since May 19, 2026, no API version can create or edit legacy Advantage+ shopping or app campaigns. Rebuild them as Advantage+ sales or app campaigns.
- Meta reported the average price per ad up 12% in Q1 and Q2 2026, and location fees of 2% to 5% apply in six countries.
- Meta opened an official ads MCP server on April 29, 2026, so the AI tools you already use can create, manage and analyze campaigns.
- Sort each update in this order: what you measure, what you pay, what you can build, then new features to test.

What changed in Facebook ads in 2026?
Twenty entries, from January 12 to the October 27 deadline. The table lists them newest first, with the date Meta gave, who is affected and the first thing to do. Every date comes from Meta’s own pages, read on September 24, 2026; the location fees row shows that check date, since Meta gives no start date.
A date is when Meta published or applied a change, not when it reached your account.

What changed in Q3 2026, from July to September?
One API release with visible effects, one results report and one opening for AI tools. Marketing API v26.0, released July 29, 2026, retired the Instagram Explore feed placement and the Messenger Stories placement value. Meta applies both to every remaining API version on October 27, 2026.
- July 29, v26.0. Spend from the Explore feed placement moves to eligible placements, Meta says. Tools creating restricted housing, employment or financial ad sets must now set Advantage+ audience on or off explicitly.
- July 16, ads MCP server. Open to any AI application through your own developer app, with rules that let admins limit what agents do.
- August 6, Ads Insights API. Device, audience-time-zone hourly and frequency breakdowns now need an opt-in on accounts without Meta sales support; sales-supported accounts are unaffected.
What changed in Q2 2026, from April to June?
Q2 was the AI quarter. Meta opened its ads AI connectors in beta, rolled out its AI business assistant to every eligible advertiser, launched Meta Business Agent and previewed creative tools at Cannes Lions. It also closed the last API path for legacy Advantage+ shopping and app campaigns, on May 19.
- April 29, ads AI connectors. An ads MCP server and an Ads CLI in open beta. Our Meta Ads MCP guide covers setup and guardrails.
- June 3, Meta Business Agent. An AI agent that answers customers and books appointments on WhatsApp and Messenger, rolling out on Instagram. Free to start, paid plans to come.
- June 22 and 28, API. DMA breakdowns became Comscore Markets; Advantage+ creative added image animation, video filters and video uncrop.
- June 23, Cannes Lions. A creative solution with brand memory, in testing.
- Threads. From April 21, Page-backed accounts and existing posts can run as Threads ads; Meta says global expansion finished in Q2.
What changed in Q1 2026, from January to March?
Q1 rewrote how results are counted. Meta cut two view-through windows from its reporting API, then redefined click-through attribution on March 3. In between, Marketing API v25.0 stopped the creation of legacy Advantage+ shopping and app campaigns, and Q4 2025 results opened the year with a 6% rise in average price per ad.
- January 12, Ads Insights API. No more 7-day or 28-day view windows. Unique-count and hourly breakdowns keep 13 months of history, frequency 6 months.
- January 28, Q4 2025 call. Ads on Threads expanding that month to all remaining countries, including the UK, the European Union and Brazil. App promotion ads followed on February 17.
- February 18, v25.0. ASC and AAC campaigns can no longer be created or updated on v25.0, then on every version from May 19.
How did Meta ads attribution change in 2026?
In two ways. For website and in-store conversions, click-through now means a link click: shares, saves and other non-link actions moved to engage-through attribution, the new name for engaged-view. For video and Reels, the engaged view threshold fell from 10 seconds to 5. And the Ads Insights API stopped returning 7-day and 28-day view windows on January 12.
Billing does not change, Meta says. Only the column a sale lands in does.
What to stop: comparing click-through conversions from February with April’s as if they measured the same thing. What to do instead:
- Mark the rollout on your reports, and compare periods on the same side of it.
- Check store orders against Ads Manager, as in our ROAS drop checklist.
- Send purchases from your server with the Conversions API, so fewer sales depend on the pixel.
What is new in Advantage+ in 2026?
Advantage+ became the only path for automated campaigns. Legacy shopping and app campaigns (ASC and AAC) lost API creation in February and every API version in May. Meta’s February 13 post said remaining ones would be paused with v26.0; its July 29 release notes do not mention it, so check your account.
The names moved too. Meta’s product page calls CBO Advantage+ campaign budget, “formerly campaign budget optimization”, with no date for the change, while its developer docs still say Advantage campaign budget. Same feature: one budget spread across ad sets in real time. Our CBO vs ABO guide shows when it fits.
On its Q2 call, Meta put Advantage+ above a $75 billion annual revenue run-rate.
- Rebuild any legacy ASC or AAC campaign as an Advantage+ sales or app campaign now, not after a pause.
What is Meta Andromeda, and did it change in 2026?
Andromeda is Meta’s ads retrieval engine: it picks the ads that can compete for a person before final ranking. Meta describes it as a hardware, software and machine learning system introduced in 2024, and credits it with an 8% increase in ad quality.
It kept changing. In January, Meta said Andromeda now runs on Nvidia, AMD and its own MTIA chips, nearly tripling its compute efficiency. In July, it said it had put a first generative model into ads retrieval. The Q2 gains it reported, 8.3% more ad clicks and 15.7% more conversions on Facebook, it credits to user understanding models combined with its GEM ranking model, not to Andromeda.
What to do: give the system distinct creatives. Meta’s advice for Andromeda is creative diversification: different themes, messages and visuals. What to stop: ten near-identical variants called a test.

Are Meta ads getting more expensive in 2026?
On average, yes. Meta reported its average price per ad up 6% year over year in Q4 2025, then 12% in Q1 2026 and 12% again in Q2. It credited ad performance gains, better macro conditions and currency. Impressions grew too: 18%, 19%, then 14%.
Two cautions. This is a global average across Meta’s apps and regions, not your CPM. And one cost is new: location fees. Meta’s help center lists fees on ads shown in Austria (5%), France (3%), Italy (3%), Spain (3%), Türkiye (5%) and the United Kingdom (2%), billed on top of your budget, by where the ad is shown, not where your business is.
Example: a store spends $4,000 a month on ads shown in France and $1,000 on ads shown in the UK. The fees add $120 and $20, so a $5,000 budget is billed $5,140.
- Ads shown in France
- = $4,000 + 3% = $4,120
- Ads shown in the UK
- = $1,000 + 2% = $1,020
- Billed for a $5,000 budget
- = $5,140
Which older Meta ads changes still apply in 2026?
Three changes from before 2026 still shape accounts: the financial category for US campaigns since January 2025, Advantage+ lead campaigns fully rolled out at the start of Q4 2025, and Marketing API v24.0, which on October 8, 2025 blocked new campaigns through the legacy ASC and AAC APIs, while older versions kept them until May 19, 2026.
The financial category trips small businesses most. Meta’s developer docs say that from January 2025 (the page gives January 14 in its warning and January 21 in its milestones), financial products and services campaigns from US advertisers, or shown to US audiences, must use it, with ages generally fixed at 18 to 65+. In the US, Meta counts 0% APR installments, including buy now, pay later, as financial products, so a contractor selling a payment plan falls under it.
How do you keep up with Meta ads updates without rebuilding every month?
Sort each update by what it touches, in a fixed order: what you measure, what you pay, what you can build, then new features to test. Measurement comes first because it changes how you read everything else. New features come last, because a test started during a measurement change teaches you little.
One pass a month is enough for most accounts: keep the rows that touch your campaigns and act on those. The harder part is seeing a change in your own results first.
That part is what Adwize does. It reads your Meta results, flags what drifts and proposes the change for you to approve, as the Optimize page shows. It applies rules you write in plain words, such as an alert when cost stays over your limit three days in a row, and watches the account 24/7 on Growth and Elite. Nothing spends until you approve. Starter costs $69 a month, with a free trial with credits.

Frequently asked questions
What are the latest Facebook ads updates?
As of September 24, 2026: Marketing API v26.0 retired the Instagram Explore feed placement on July 29, and Q2 results that day showed the average price per ad up 12%. On October 27, v26.0 changes reach every API version.
Did Meta change attribution in 2026?
Yes. From March 2026, click-through attribution for website and in-store conversions counts only link clicks; other interactions moved to engage-through. The Ads Insights API also dropped 7-day and 28-day view windows on January 12.
Is CBO still available on Facebook?
Yes, as Advantage+ campaign budget, “formerly campaign budget optimization” on Meta’s product page. It still spreads one budget across your ad sets in real time.
What happened to Advantage+ shopping campaigns?
They are being retired. Since May 19, 2026, no Marketing API version can create or update ASC or AAC campaigns. Meta points advertisers to Advantage+ sales and app campaigns.
What are Meta location fees?
A fee billed on top of your budget for ads shown in countries with digital services taxes: 5% in Austria and Türkiye, 3% in France, Italy and Spain, 2% in the UK.
