A Facebook ads agency runs your Meta campaigns for a monthly fee, on top of what you pay Meta for the ads. Public guides put that fee at 10% to 20% of monthly ad spend, and WebFX, an agency that publishes its grid, charges $1,975 for the first month, then the greater of $975 or 15% of spend. A Facebook ads freelancer is one specialist, usually paid by the hour: Upwork shows median rates of $15 to $40. An AI agent such as Adwize is software that drafts, checks and reports on your Meta ads for a fixed $69, $149 or $299 a month, and launches nothing without your approval. Pick an agency when you need a team, video production and several ad networks. Pick a freelancer for a specific gap or a short project. An AI agent is enough when you advertise only on Facebook and Instagram and want to keep the decisions yourself.
TL;DR
- Agency fees are commonly quoted at 10% to 20% of ad spend; WebFX’s public grid starts at $975 a month after a $1,975 first month.
- Facebook ads freelancers on Upwork show median rates of $15 to $40 an hour.
- Adwize costs a fixed $69, $149 or $299 a month and changes nothing without your approval.
- In every case you pay Meta for the ads on top, and the ad account should stay in your own business portfolio.
- Agency for several networks and video; freelancer for one project; AI agent for Meta only, with you deciding.

What does a Facebook ads agency actually do?
A Facebook ads agency plans, builds, runs and reports on your Meta campaigns, usually with a team: a strategist, a media buyer, a designer and an account manager. A “Meta ads agency” is the same thing, since Facebook and Instagram ads are both bought in Meta Ads Manager.
What you get depends on the package. WebFX’s published Facebook advertising plans, for example, include strategy, audience analysis, ad copywriting and design, ongoing testing, monthly reporting and up to 2 or 4 consultations a month. The same fee also covers other networks, such as LinkedIn and Twitter.
What an agency cannot bring is your knowledge of your margins, your customers and your offer. You still brief it, approve its plans and pay Meta directly for the ads. If you are not sure yet that you need outside help, first check what your account already says with our account audit checklist.

How much does a Facebook ads agency cost in 2026?
Most agencies bill a percentage of ad spend, a flat monthly fee, or the greater of the two, and your ad spend goes to Meta on top. WebFX’s pricing guide puts ad management at 10% to 20% of monthly ad spend, and Clutch lists average hourly rates of $25 to $49 for Facebook advertising agencies.
One public grid makes this concrete. On its Facebook advertising page, checked on October 13, 2026, WebFX lists two plans:
- Pro: $1,975 for the first month, then $975 or 15% of ad spend a month, whichever is greater, for ad spend of $1,000 to $30,000.
- Enterprise: $4,250 for the first month, then $4,500 or 12% of ad spend a month, whichever is greater, for ad spend above $30,000.
Do the math on the floor before the percentage. On the Pro plan, 15% of spend only passes $975 once you spend more than $6,500 a month. At $3,000 of monthly spend, you pay $975, which is 32.5% of what goes to Meta.
These are one agency’s prices and industry averages, not a quote for you. Clutch also puts the average monthly cost of social media marketing projects at $5,107, a figure that covers all social work, not only ads. Ask every agency for a written price that separates the fee from the ad spend and states the minimum term.
How much does a Facebook ads freelancer cost?
A freelancer usually bills by the hour or by project, and the rate depends on the person. Upwork shows median hourly rates of $15 to $40 for Facebook and Meta ads specialists, based on past contracts worldwide. The final rate is negotiated with each freelancer, and a median is a middle value, not a ceiling.
Example (illustrative hours): a freelancer who spends 10 hours a month on your account costs $150 to $400 at those median rates. Specialists with a long track record in your industry can quote well above that.
What changes with a freelancer is coverage. One person brings one skill set and one calendar: holidays, illness or a bigger client can slow your account down. You also manage the work yourself: the brief, the review and the decision to keep going or stop. Freelancers who handle several clients can run Adwize for them; see the page for freelancers.
What does an AI agent like Adwize cost, and what does it do?
Adwize costs a fixed fee: $69 a month on Starter, $149 on Growth and $299 on Elite, plus your ad spend paid to Meta. Yearly billing costs ten months instead of twelve. A Free plan at $0, with no credit card, connects one ad account and gives 3 free creatives; launching campaigns needs a paid plan.
For that fee, Adwize drafts full Meta campaigns from one sentence (objective, audiences, budget and ads), reads running campaigns to flag what drifts and propose changes, creates static image ads and copy in your brand style, and writes plain-language performance reports. Nothing launches, changes or spends until you approve it.
It has limits an agency does not. Adwize only works with Meta ads, on Facebook and Instagram: no Google, TikTok or LinkedIn. It makes static image ads, not video shoots. And it proposes rather than decides: the strategy, the offer and the final yes stay with you. Every plan is on the pricing page.
- Agency, WebFX Pro, month 1
- = $1,975
- Agency, WebFX Pro, months 2+
- = greater of $975 or 15% × $3,000 = $975
- Freelancer, 10 hours (example)
- = 10 × $15 to $40 = $150 to $400
- AI agent, Adwize Starter
- = $69 a month
Who owns the ad account with an agency, a freelancer or an AI agent?
You should, in all three cases. In Meta’s system, the business portfolio that owns an asset, such as an ad account or a Page, is the only one that can share it with another business. So keep the ad account, the Page and the pixel in your own portfolio, then give the provider access.
Meta’s help center describes how to do this with an agency: in your business portfolio settings, open Partners, choose to give a partner access to your assets, enter the agency’s business portfolio ID, then pick the assets and the access level. Full control lets the partner manage everything; partial access limits it to tasks such as managing ads.
The trap is the reverse setup: an agency that runs your ads from an ad account it owns. If you part ways, the history, the audiences and the data can stay with them. WebFX, for one, states that it manages social assets through client-owned accounts; ask any provider to put the same in writing. With Adwize, the ad account stays yours and you can revoke its access at any time. Read how Adwize handles access and data.
Before you sign with anyone, get written answers to five questions:
- What is the fee, apart from ad spend, and is there a minimum term?
- Whose business portfolio owns the ad account, the Page and the pixel?
- Who approves a budget change or a new campaign before it goes live?
- Which report do I get, how often, and with which numbers?
- How do I end the contract, and what do I keep?
- Open your business portfolio settings
- Click Partners, then give a partner access to your assets
- Enter the agency’s business portfolio ID
- Pick the ad account and Page, choose partial access
- Assign assets; remove the partner when the contract ends
When is a Facebook ads agency the right choice?
An agency is the right choice when the work needs a team, not one person or one tool. That is usually the case when you advertise on several networks, need video and design production every month, and spend enough that the fee becomes a small share of your budget.
- Several networks: agency plans such as WebFX’s cover Facebook and Instagram plus other networks for one fee. Adwize covers Meta only.
- Production: shoots, video edits and new concepts every month are what agencies staff for.
- Spend: on WebFX’s Pro plan, the fee drops to 15% of spend once you pass $6,500 a month. Below that, the $975 floor weighs more.
- No time at all: if nobody in your business can review a plan once a week, a managed service fits better than a tool that waits for your approval.
If you keep an agency, you can still read your own results between monthly calls. A report you can read without a spreadsheet shows whether the money works, whoever runs the account.
When is a Facebook ads freelancer the better choice?
A freelancer fits a specific gap: a launch, an account audit, a creative sprint or a second opinion on a struggling campaign. You pay for the hours you choose, often without a long retainer, as long as you can brief the work and judge the result yourself.
- One-off projects: setting up tracking, rebuilding a messy account, writing a batch of new ad angles.
- Specialist skills: a video editor, a copywriter or a media buyer who knows your industry.
- Budget: at $15 to $40 an hour (Upwork median), a few hours a month cost less than most agency minimums.
The risk is continuity. Keep the account in your portfolio, give partial access only, and keep track of what the freelancer changed so the next person can pick it up. The activity history audit shows every change made in the account and who made it.
When is an AI agent like Adwize enough?
An AI agent is enough when you advertise only on Facebook and Instagram, can spend a few minutes approving changes, and prefer a fixed fee to a share of your spend. That describes many founders, small e-commerce brands and solo marketers who run Meta ads themselves today.
- Meta only: Adwize does not run Google, TikTok or LinkedIn ads.
- Static ads work for you: it creates image ads and copy, not video shoots.
- You want the last word: every launch, change and budget waits for your approval.
- A known price: a fixed monthly plan, not a percentage of what you spend.
You can also combine them: Adwize for the daily checks and drafts, a freelancer for a creative sprint, an agency for the channels Adwize does not cover. Agencies use Adwize too, with client-ready reports on higher plans; see the page for agencies.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a Facebook ads agency charge per month?
Public guides put agency management at 10% to 20% of monthly ad spend. WebFX’s published grid charges $1,975 for the first month, then $975 or 15% of spend, whichever is greater. Your ad spend is paid to Meta on top.
Is a Facebook ads freelancer cheaper than an agency?
Usually, for the same hours. Upwork shows median rates of $15 to $40 an hour for Facebook and Meta ads specialists, against agency floors such as WebFX’s $975 a month. A freelancer is one person, though, not a team.
Is a Meta ads agency different from a Facebook ads agency?
No. Facebook and Instagram ads are both bought in Meta Ads Manager, so the two names describe the same service. Check which other networks the agency covers.
Should my agency own my ad account?
No. Keep the ad account, the Page and the pixel in your own business portfolio and give the agency partner access. In Meta’s system, only the owner of an asset can share it with another business.
Can an AI agent replace a Facebook ads agency?
For a Meta-only advertiser who can approve changes, often yes. Adwize drafts, checks and reports for $69 to $299 a month. It does not run other networks or shoot video, which an agency can.
